Sierra Leone National Amputee Football Team Depart for Cairo

The Sierra Leone National Amputee Football Team has on Thursday 16th May 2024, departed the Freetown International Airport for Egypt, where they will compete in the prestigious 2024 Confederation of African Amputee Football Tournament.


Foday James Lumeh, team captain representing Pendik Football Club in Istanbul, Turkey, expressed profound gratitude to the Government of the Republic of Sierra Leone for providing funds to their association  through the National Sports Authority. The team Comprise talented players from various regions across the country  ranging from: Kailahun, Makeni, Freetown, and Maforki. The players are highly determined for the tournament and are as well keen to make a mark for Sierra Leone.

Sierra Leone finds itself placed in Group D alongside formidable opponents like Angola and Tanzania, after Rwanda's unexpected withdrawal from the tournament. The team's campaign will kick off with a highly anticipated match against Angola, who are two-time Champions of the tournament.


Sierra Leone’s participation in this tournament indicates Government's steadfast commitment to youth development and inclusive sports, as the Ministry of Sports and National Sports Authority will continue to prioritize providing opportunities for young people to realize their full potential, irrespective of their regional background or tribe.


This will mark Sierra Leone’s  seventh consecutive appearance at the continental Showpiece.
