The British High Commissioner to Sierra Leone, Lisa Chesney graced the 10th Edition of Tour De LUNSAR Cycling Criterium in LUNSAR Town.
This year's Edition of the Tour De LUNSAR Cycling Criterium attracted two Cycling clubs from Nigeria and Benin with team Nigeria Ibuirin emerging as the best team on the Final day, whilst Team Access finished third.
While delivering her Statement to thousands of fans at the event, British high Commissioner to Sierra Leone Lisa Chesney appreciated all athletes both local and foreign that participated in this year's event, expressing that the Tour marks a development for Cycling in Sierra Leone as there are huge potentials from the athletes that competed in the Tour De LUNSAR Cycling Criterium.
Lisa Chesney confirmed that the next edition of the Tour De LUNSAR will be massive because she will endeavor to extend invitation to British and American athlete to grace the 11th Edition.
"Sports has the power to bring people together to speak one Language, sport is about peace, harmony, and social gathering were people can be united” She stated
Abdul Karim Kamara CEO of Tour De LUNSAR Cycling Criterium stated that the Tour started some years ago with little capital but that they had strong confidence that it will grow. He added that they faced numerous challenges in the area of financing, and as well acquiring adequate materials for the riders that are competing, and that as they commemorate the 10th Edition the Tour has experience massive upgrade.
Prince Vandy Sullay President of National Olympic Committee of Sierra Leone expressed that the Tour De LUNSAR Cycling Criterium is an event he always look forward to and that the performance of the cyclist are encouraging and its shows that they have potentials that will compete with international athletes.
Mohamed Sidi Kamara the President of the Sierra Leone National Cycling Association noted that there has been huge progress in the association since assuming Office some seven months ago, and that if they get the required support needed they will do more.
This year’s Tour De LUNSAR Cycling Criterium produced outstanding performances, Ibrahim Jalloh won the best Mountain of Hills and best Spirit Ride whilst Benin Republic Female Elite Riders grabbed Elite Riders Category after 20 laps and Sierra Leone Elite female Riders grabbed 4th and 5th place respectively.
A total of 83 cyclists competed in this year’s Tour De Lunsar comprising 56 Elite male Riders and 27 female Elite Riders.
