Sierra Leone’s Scrabble Champion Emmanuel King Esq. has won gold at the just concluded 13th edition of the African Games 2023 hosted in Accra Ghana.
King's name will enter the annals of the Games for being the first player to win gold upon the introduction of Scrabble in that sport architecture.
In a three-day competition, the continental fight brought together 14 countries with 24 players in the main men's category.
This gold is King's medal drought-breaker after 15 major appearances on the international stage.
Back home, he has won several medals to be crowned Sierra Leone Scrabble Champion with jaw-dropping pedigree.
On winning his first cross-border gold, King says: “This is a proud moment for me, and I must thank the Lord for his faithfulness. I also thank my mum and my lovely fiancé for the unflinching support all these years.”
King, a lawyer, says Scrabble has always been his second career. “It has been responsible for how I approach life. The game teaches problem-solving and strategic analysis, added to a strong vocabulary arsenal," he adds
