UNICEF, Government Review Progress on 2025–2030 Country Programme

The United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) and the Government of Sierra Leone have reviewed progress made under the 2025–2030 Country Programme (CP), highlighting key achievements, existing financing gaps, and the need for stronger prioritisation to deliver results for children across the country.


The review meeting brought together representatives from key government institutions and development partners to assess the implementation of the programme and examine how available resources are being utilised to support child-focused interventions.


During discussions, a budget analysis revealed financing shortfalls in some priority areas, prompting calls for smarter prioritisation, more efficient systems, and stronger accountability mechanisms to ensure that resources are used effectively.

Officials at the meeting emphasized that sustained investment will be critical to achieving the goals outlined in the Country Programme, particularly in sectors such as health, education, social protection, and gender equality.


The review also underscored the importance of collaboration between government ministries, development partners, and stakeholders to ensure that programmes targeting children are implemented efficiently and produce measurable results.

Participants reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening systems and improving coordination among institutions to accelerate progress in delivering services and opportunities for children in Sierra Leone.


Key government ministries participating in the review included the Ministry of Health and Sanitation, the Ministry of Gender and Children's Affairs, the Ministry of Basic and Senior Secondary Education, and the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development.
