The British High Commission in Freetown has congratulated Liam Rosenior on his appointment as Head Coach of Chelsea Football Club, calling it a moment that reflects the deep and growing ties between the United Kingdom and Sierra Leone.

In a statement, the High Commission drew attention to Rosenior’s strong Sierra Leonean heritage through his father, Leroy Rosenior, a former Leone Stars international and national team coach.

Leroy Rosenior represented Sierra Leone in a 1994 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier on 9 January 1993 and later returned to guide the national side during the 2007 AFCON qualifying campaign.

The Commission said the Rosenior family legacy highlights the power of sport in connecting nations and strengthening cultural bonds between Sierra Leone and the UK.

Rosenior’s elevation to one of English football’s most high-profile coaching roles was described as both a personal milestone and a symbol of shared history and opportunity.

Wishing him success, the British High Commission said his journey reflects a unifying message: Two nations. One heritage. One future.
