In identifying the challenges militating against the efforts in environmental conservation and eco-tourism development and also proffering solutions to the menace, the Ministry of Tourism and Cultural Affairs, together with partners, held a panel discussion on November's theme in the Tourism for All Campaign titled, Wildlife Conservation and Communities.
Panelists for the discussions were representatives from the Ministry of Tourism and Cultural Affairs, National Tourist Board, Tacugama Chimpanzee Sanctuary and Conservation Society Sierra Leone. The topic, removing barriers militating against wildlife conservation for community benefits and the growth of sustainable eco-tourism in Sierra Leone, was extensively dealt with by the panelist, who proffered tangible solutions and a road map to sustainable environment practices and wildlife conservation.
The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Tourism and Cultural Affairs, Edward Kwame Yankson, remarked that the Wildlife Conservation and Communities Month of the Tourism for All Campaign is a critical component that requires the input of government, partners, and community stakeholders to ensure the protection of the environment and its wildlife.
Director of Tourism, Travel, and Exchange, Mohamed Jalloh, premised his statement on the benefits of preserving the environment. He encouraged community stakeholders to refrain from harmful environmental practices that destroy the environment and its habitats.
The program was chaired by the Product Development Officer of NTB, Bashiru Koroma, while Senior Tourist Officer, Tamba S. Bundor, moderated the panel discussion.
