The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) is rolling out solar power to 2,183 households across six underserved districts in Sierra Leone: Falaba, Kambia, Moyamba, Pujehun, Bonthe, and the Western Area Rural.

Each home is receiving a 12-watt solar system, complete with five light bulbs and mobile phone charging ports. The initiative is already improving safety, extending productive hours, and enhancing connectivity for families without reliable access to electricity.

Last week, installations were completed in Gbondapi, Pujehun District. This week marks the final stop of the rollout in Moyamba.

The intervention is part of UNDP’s broader commitment to climate resilience and inclusive development. In a country where rural electrification remains a challenge, such off-grid solutions offer a sustainable path forward.
