U.S. Ambassador Reaffirms Economic Partnership During Visit to Karene District

In a show of continued support for Sierra Leone’s economic development, United States Ambassador to Sierra Leone, Bryan David Hunt, visited Karene District this week to strengthen ties and promote private-sector growth and agricultural innovation opportunities.

The visit, which included meetings with traditional leaders, local government officials, and community stakeholders, underscored the U.S. government’s long-standing commitment to partnerships that drive inclusive, community-led development. Ambassador Hunt emphasized the need for policies and infrastructure that support entrepreneurship and enable sustainable growth in rural districts like Karene.

“The United States remains committed to supporting Sierra Leone in building a strong, resilient economy that works for everyone,” Ambassador Hunt said. “We believe in the power of local leadership, grassroots partnerships, and the private sector to drive transformative change.”

Promoting Private Sector-Led Growth

A central theme of the Ambassador’s remarks was the importance of creating a conducive environment for private investment. With agriculture as the backbone of the Karene economy, Ambassador Hunt highlighted the sector's innovation potential and improved value chains to boost livelihoods and reduce poverty.

He pointed to the U.S. government’s initiatives through USAID and other development programs that aim to equip local farmers with the tools, training, and technology needed to enhance productivity and access markets.
