Guaranty Trust Bank (GTBank) Sierra Leone has strongly denied a viral social media claim alleging that a 12-year-old girl was raped at its Brookfield’s Branch in Freetown. In a public notice issued on Monday, 21st July 2025, the bank described the allegation as completely false and misleading.

The notice, signed by management, said the bank had not been contacted by any official authority regarding the matter, but stands ready to cooperate fully with the police or any relevant body should an investigation be initiated.

“We strongly condemn any form of abuse or criminal activity. Such acts are against our values, ethics, and corporate principles,” the statement read.

GTBank reassured the public of its commitment to providing a safe and secure environment for all customers and staff. The bank also urged members of the public to treat the circulating information with caution and to rely only on updates from official GTBank communication channels.

This public rebuttal comes amid growing concern over the spread of misinformation on social media platforms in Sierra Leone, especially when such reports involve high-profile institutions.

The bank emphasized that it remains committed to transparency, integrity, and public accountability.
