The Environment Protection Agency handed over fifteen 300-liter waste bins to the Office of the President at State House, off State Avenue in Freetown.

He stated that the public sector must practice proper waste management to ensure a sustainable and clean environment and make recycling easier for the right purposes.

Lamin Tarawalli recommended that the bins be put in strategic locations and that everyone dispose of waste according to the labels on the containers.

Similar donations will be made to key state institutions to cultivate the habit of effective waste management for environmental health and safety.

Receiving the bins, the Secretary to the President, Dr Emmanuel Gaima, described the gesture as timely and tangible proof of the EPA's mission to manage a clean environment.

He furthered that environmental health is a priority in the public sector, since efficiency can only be accomplished in an environment that promotes the health and well-being of others.

“This waste sorting model is crucial for recycling, as not all waste can be disposed of as unusable, “he stated.

Dr. Gaima thanked the EPA for a practical demonstration of their mandate and encouraged them to conduct periodic environmental sensitization to capacitate everyone about environmental awareness and stewardship, especially in the public sector.
